Far East Gippsland Backroad Tour - The Mighty Snowy is a Parks Victoria touring route in Victoria’s High Country, 31 km N of Buchan.

This drive is suitable for novice drivers in all-wheel drive and high range 4WDs. Although graded as “Easy – AWD & 4WD”, conditions will deteriorate considerably in wet weather This full day tour has camping, picnicking and walking track options scattered throughout. From Orbost, head out to the Princess Highway, turning right. Cross the Snowy River and turn left to go under the bridge onto Buchan-Orbost Road with views of the historic old rail trestle bridge on your left. Continue on Buchan-Orbost Road and follow signs toward Buchan. There is an optional side trip for 4WDs off the Buchan-Orbost Road down Sandy Point Track to Sandy Point (Grade – Difficult). Getting there
Starting from Orbost’s main street Nicholson Street, head south towards Princes Highway to start the tour. Sections on the route are unsuitable for caravans due to roads being narrow and steep.
