This drive is suitable for novice drivers in all-wheel drive and high range 4WDs. This side trip off the main High Country Backroad Tour - Bairnsdale to Dargo Tour heads down to Angusvale, a very popular campground along the banks of the Mitchell River. Pause at Angusvale Lookout for views of Tabberabbera Nature Conservation Reserve and Angusvale, before continuing on another 2.6kms to Angusvale Camping Area. Mitchell River is the largest free flowing river in Victoria. To help protect the fragile Heritage River environment, camping is not permitted within 50 metres of the water.

Turn off the Bairnsdale-Dargo Road, down the Mitchell River Road to Angusvale.
