This drive is suitable for novice drivers in all-wheel drive and high range 4WDs. Heading southeast out of Woods Point down Coster Street, this side trip takes you to the site of Gooleys Creek, once a significant gold mining settlement for the ‘Never Mind’ and ‘Franklin’ gold mines, named after William Gooley, who discovered gold in the creek in 1861. You will also pass by the route cut by McMillans party, to link the gold mining settlements from Omeo to Woods Point and the Jordan. If seeking a campsite, the side trip passes near the Comet Flat Reserve. Looks for the turn-off down Noble Spur Track about 1.2km out of Woods Point.

This side trip is accessed off the main street of Woods Point, heading east on Coster Street, opposite the Woods Point Hotel.
