For 4WDs and drivers with reasonable 4WD experience or 4WD training. This side trip to the Old Star of the West Goldmine is well worth the effort. The steep 4WD track can be walked if not suitable to drive. This goldmine was the richest of the local gold mines producing 33,000 ounces of gold (worth $90 million in 2024 values). Evidence remains of mullock heaps, audits, furnace sites and huts. At the end of the vehicle track you can further explore the site via the short Star of the West Goldmine Walk.
