Avon River Walking Track is a Parks Victoria walk in Victoria’s High Country, 11 km NE of Coongulla.

This walk meanders along the scenic Avon River and provides rewarding views and access to the river in several sections including The Channels. Vegetation varies from riparian species and wildflowers to dry sclerophyll forest on the rocky outcrops above. This is the main walk in the Avon - Mt Hedrick Natural Features and Scenic Reserve and well worth a visit if you have the time. The campgrounds of Huggett’s Crossing and Dermody’s provide overnight camping options. A grade 3 walking track that meanders alongside the Avon river.

Getting there

The Avon walking track takes off at Huggett's Crossing picnic area prior to the campsites. Huggett’s Crossing is located around 15km or 25 minutes North of the township of Newry and can be accessed via Three Chain Rd and then Kentucky Rd. At the end of Kentucky Rd turn left onto Huggett’s Track and travel for 4km on this 4WD route to the Camping area. The end of the walking track is located at Wombat Crossing.
